Welcome to the Matwork Pilates page

As a Pilates teacher, I’m making it my mission to help you move better and feel stronger using the Pilates method.

In addition to having 30 years experience teaching Fitness, I am also an exercise referral teacher and advanced lower back specialist so I have a keen interest in anyone with non specific back pain. I truly believe that movement heals and I would love to help you  experience this for yourself.  I also have taught many disciplines over the years so I do take my inspiration from many of these when designing my sessions. Don't be surprised to see something a bit different to other Pilates classes you may have tried.

About Pilates

What is Pilates?

Pilates was designed by Joseph Pilates and was originally name Contrology. It is an innovative, refreshing, mind-body exercise system that focuses on stretching and strengthening the whole body.

By emphasizing proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, you will become acutely in tune with your body, allowing you to implement the Pilates principles you learn into your day to day life.

Benefits

  • Increase your core strength and help alleviate and prevent back pain

  • Improve your joint flexibility and range of movement

  • Reduce your stress levels

  • Improve balance, improve muscular strength, develop flexibility and improve posture.

  • Feel leaner, stronger and more toned

It’s safe - Pilates has long been recommended as one of the safest forms of exercise by GPs, physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths as a method to keep the spine healthy and injury free.

It’s Gentle and challenging - Pilates is an extremely flexible exercise system.  Modifications to the exercises allow for a range of difficulty raging from beginners to advanced so is therefore suitable for all fitness levels and age groups.

My Pilates classes are run on a six week block. This allows you to learn the method week to week, building on the essential principles including breath and control. Please see my dates below and contact me if you wish to register. To do this contact me via the enquire now button and ensure you specify which block and time you are keen on.
